If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do. James 1:5-8 There is a bitter truth in these passages. The truth is often times we are just playing spiritual games with God. We come to a crossroad in life where we need to ask for wisdom. We go through the spiritual motion of wanting His wisdom, but as soon as the pressure is off, as soon as we think we are in the clear, we choose to go our own way again. Or as James suggests, we ask for wisdom but all the while we are still hanging on to what we want. We are torn between God and the world. We waver and our own worldly desire usually wins. How can we break this cycle? How can we really understand God’s wisdom for our life and then follow it? I believe it happens when we fall own at His feet, tell Him the truth, ask for forgiveness and then ask Him to direct us, guide us and empower us to follow Him. It is by spending time with God, listening to Him and accepting the guidance of His Holy Spirit. We follow Him one crossroad at a time. We live for Him, one request for wisdom at a time. We start to say “Yes” to Jesus one day at a time. Why not start today?
